Visual Archive Image

My internship advisor at NCSU CVM has assigned a wonderful project to me called a visual archive. The goal of this project is to help me become more artistically eloquent. In my photography program the technical aspect is highly stressed and sometimes the creative part is forgotten; this project has me finding things that I find visually interesting and then dissecting why they interst me. It's really a great exercise. Anyway long story short this is an image I shot at NCSU CVM and I love it for many reasons, too many to list here.

Bird Skull From Staunton, VA

This skull is actually very tiny, probably an inch in total length. The skull is that of a sparrow that got stuck in an abandon hospital and died. This image was made by putting the skull on a flatbed scanner and scanning it. I used an Epson 1640 XL scanner and added the black corners by rotating the image in photoshop to expose the black background.

A CLOWN FISH!!!!

I absolutely love this shot. It's of a clown fish in a tank in the lobby at NCSU CVM. I just hand held and bracketed exposure; shot with a Nikon D1X and a Nikon 35mm-70mm Af lens. No flash. I did clean up the image in photoshop using levels and hue/saturation.

Research Surgery

This photo is of a dog under anesthesia. it was shot at NCSU CVM I shot this using a Nikon D1X and a 35mm-70mm lens AF, and SB-28flash. My exposure was 1/150th@F8.

More Internship Work

I do a lot of different things on my internship and one of them is scanning EM negatives and adjusting the histogram in photoshop. I scanned this negative using an Agfa Duoscan and brought the detail out using curves and levels in photoshop.

Shell and Barnacle

I shot this on Kodak Tungsten Ektachrome. I used a Nikon FG and a 55mm macro lens and an extension tube, The exposure was F32 @ 10sec.

Feather




I shot this with tungsten hot lights on Kodak EktaChrome. I used a Nikon FG and a 55mm macro lens with an extension tube, The exposure was F32 @ 5sec.

High Key Assignment


This was a high key assignment I shot for BioMed Portrait Lighting Class. It was a first attempt that I shot on chrome. I used strobes and shot with a Nikon FG camera and a 28mm-90mm lens. I don't remember the exposure, it was last semester.

Multimedia Project





These are some of the images I shot for a multimedia project, I will be putting them together in a Soundslides project with ambient noise and music.

Beams

This is one of my all time favorite shots. It was shot with a Mamiya 645 1000s on Tmax 100. It was hand processed and printed.

First Macro Shoot


This was my first shoot for my macro class. I got confused with the ratios, but now I understand.This was shot on a Nikon FG with a 105mm macro lens and an extension tube on Kodak Ektachrome 160 Tungsten balanced chrome. Exposure was F22 at 2sec.

Rain Tree Over Break

I shot this over break while walking one of my pet sitting dogs. This was shot with a Canon 10D and a 24-85mm lens at F2.8 for shallow depth of field.

No Lens Baby Here! 50mm Fixed Lens


This was shot with a Canon 10D and a 50mm fixed lens. The angle of the glass with the camera plumb made the depth of field effect possible. It was a shot for fun, so the exposure was set on programmed.

Low Key Portrait for BioMed Portrait Lighting
I used Kodak Gold Iso 200 c-41 film, and then scanned the film and converted it to a digital.
I shot this using a Nikon FG and a 28-90mm lens.
Oh and by the way one of her eyes is not there, i photoshopped it in!

Outdoor portrait Assignment
This was hot with a Canon 10D and a 24-85mm lens. I used two alien bees (one as fill and one as main); I then dragged the shutter to capture the ambient light of the background.

1st Year Basic Potrait Lighting Assignment
This was shot with a Mamiya 645 1000s on TMAX100 black and white film. Hand processed and printed. Exposure 1/45 sec at F5.6. I used Tungsten hot lights and black cards to direct the light where I needed it. One of my all time favorites.

This photo is unretouched. It was shot on Agfa Vista 200 with a Nikon FG and a 28-90mm macro lens. The exposure was 1/125sec at F16.

Very Old Shot for Design Lab, 1st Semester at RCC
This was shot on Fuji Provia 100 chrome with a Nikon FG and a 28-90mm macro lens at 1/125sec at F8

Layout for Bio-Communications Photo Journalism
In Bio-Comm PJ we have to create a layout once a week containing 3 photographs and a story. This was shot at my work. I shot this using a Canon 10D with a 24-85mm lens with ISO200 at 1/125 sec at F5.6.

Long Lines Assignment For Bio-Medical Portrait Lighting
This was shot using a Canon 10D with a 24 - 85mm lens and Iso 200 at 1/60 sec at F4. There were 3 tungsten hot lights directed on the background to blow it out and absolutely no lights on the subject. The purpose of this assignment was to observe the curves of male and female bodies and to understand masculine and feminine poses.

Glass Assignment for Bio-Medical Object Lighting PHO 225
This was shot using using a Canon 10D and a 24-85mm lens. The exposure was 1/500 sec at F16 and ISO 200. I used one Alien Bee positioned behind and underneath the glass.

Chocolate Assignment for Bio Medical Object Lighting Pho 225
This was shot with a canon 10D and a 24-85mm lens. The exposure was 1/500 sec at F11 at ISO 200. I used one Alien Bee strobe at 1/16th power postioned from above and to the side to illuminate the word hershey.

Fruit Assignment for Bio Medical object Lighting PHO 225
This was shot with a Nikon FG with a 28mm-90 mm lens on Fuji Provia Chrome Daylight balanced. The exposure was 1 strobe flash @ F11, shutter speed was set on bulb to allow for use of flash light.. I used a Speedotron 2400 Power Pack hooked up to 2 strobes. I put a green gel on one of the strobes for background color. I dragged the shutter on the camera so I could fill in the shadow side using a flash light, this provides detail on the shadow side and yields a rich warm glow. Summer 2006

Water Assignment For Bio-Medical Object Lighting PHO 225
This was shot using a Nikon D1H Camera with a 105mm macro lens. The exposure was 1/350 sec at F4 and ISO 200. I used Vivitar 285 Flashes synched with Pocket Wizards. Summer 2006
